Details Emerge

We  finally have the first big update from Silicon Valley Comic Con (SVCC)! And it is quite the update:

Captian Kirk himself, yes...William Shatner will be in attendance at the con!! And not only that but he will be hosting a 50th anniversary panel for all thing Star Trek, and it is said to include many other Trek alumni (although none were mentioned by name). Shatner had this to say:

"It's only logical to celebrate the 50th anniversary of 'Star Trek' alongside technology that was just science fiction when 'Star Trek' first began to broadcast," William Shatner said in a press release. "I'm looking forward to participating in the inaugural Silicon Valley Comic Con."

It will be bittersweet seeing the entire cast reunite after the passing of Leonard Nimoy, I am sure many tears will be shed during the panel. I would say that is pretty big news in itself, but the website was also drastically changed to go along with the news about Shatners appearance.

Other items that were updated with my thoughts after them:

Technology - The site says:
At SVCC, you can get your technology fix while scratching your pop culture itch! SVCC is where science fiction blends with science fact, and amazing technologies will be on display, from your favorite tech companies, to the newest start-ups and app developers.

What this means- Sounds like the are actually going to have some cool science toys and displays about how science now is slowly becoming science fiction. I wonder if Woz will get his friends at apple to show some stuff?

Guests - The Site says:
Exciting guests from across the pop culture landscape will be attending SVCC, and we can’t wait to tell you all about it. Please check back in on October 15th when we will be publishing a partial list of guests. Guests will be added right up until the show starts, so keep coming back for the latest news!

What this means - Seems as if they are finalizing the guest list, if Shatner is any means to judge they seem to have a few cool surprises in store for us. Wish it was October 15th!!!

Artists- The Site says:
With Big Wow Comic Fest — the largest comic book show of its kind in the United States—now part of the Silicon Valley Comic Con family, SVCC will be the place to meet all of your favorite artists. Artists will be added right up until the show starts, so check back frequently!

What this means- This list sounds like it will be in flux up until the show starts, but a stable of a good comic book convention is seeing the artists who craft all of todays comics. Stay tuned for more updates.

How Ironic ? (backwords question mark)- the site says:
Do you know what this symbol means? It stands for irony, and the irony is that we are going to keep what it means a secret for now. But stay tuned. More clues will follow.

What this means- I have no idea! Something to do with the riddler or a gigantic secrect they cant tell us yet! I must know!!!!

Big Wow Comic Pavilion – the site says:
With Big Wow ComicFest now part of the SVCC family of events, you can experience all that the largest comic book gathering has to offer at SVCC 2016 in the Big Wow Comic Pavilion. Take a walk through Artist Alley, and browse through our huge selection of comic books, art, collectibles, sci-fi and fantasy.

What this means- I am not entirely sure, I know BIG WOW used to be the only comic book convention in the bay area (since WonderCon ran ship to Anaheim). It seems like they want to keep the Big Wow name around, glad they teamed up!

Entertainment – What the site says:
Silicon Valley Comic Con is nothing if not entertaining. See the hottest technologies, speak with the tech gods that shape and drive our world, catch the latest in new movies, and listen to the producers, directors and actors that are creating the pop culture we are all talking about. You can also engage in cosplay fashion shows, get thrown off a mechanical bull, or fall from a two story building. So be sure to bring your super powers, because you're going to need them.

What this means- They are really selling this to be something big. I sure hope they can live up to the hype. It also sounds as if they have some cool events set up to ride a bull and fall from a two story building, those could be really cool if done correctly.

The Venue – What the site says:
The inaugural Silicon Valley Comic Con will be hosted at the San Jose Convention Center on March 18-20, 2016.We've secured a block of reduced-rate hotel rooms to make your trip to San Jose more affordable. Rooms at the group rate are limited and available on a first come, first-served basis. Book early for the best selection and price.

What this teams- Get your tickets!!! We booked ours the other day.  This should be the convention the bay area deserves!

I am very happy to see these updates! We sure had some huge details added to the mix and hopefully they have a few more for us. Stay tuned to this web site to get all the SVCC updates.

SVCC Wish List

All has been quiet on the Silicon Valley Comic Con front, we eagerly await to see the guests they are most likely confirming. Also hoping to get some more info soon on what panels we will be seeing.

I remember the day when I would go to cons just for comics and not much else. With the recent boom in superhero movies and TV shows it isn't  surprising to me to see the culture grow and grow as well as the cons grow in attendance. I hope SVCC has a good selection of comics and toys as well as a nice panel group and of course everyone loves when a celebrity or two shows up.

Here is my wish list of who will show up:
Bruce Campbell
Joss Wheden
Chris Hardwick
Wil Wheaton
Kevin Smith & Jay Mewes
Anyone in the Avengers cast
Stan Lee
Mark Millar
Weird Al Yankovic
X-Men cast

And of course if they have some cool panels I would love to see:
Marvel Cinematic Universe (Civil War)
Star Wars
DC
Doctor Who
Big Bang Theory
X-men: Age of Apocalypse
Deadpool

I know its a long shot, but it never hurts to wish!

Keep here to get the latest updates on Silicon Valley Comic Con

The journey begins

Wondercon is no more...

I have been attending Wondercon since I was a kid. I began my love for comics as a kid walking the floor with my brother and dad for many years at Wondercon. It was always something too look forward to! I would get to spend the entire day in Oakland (and later San Francisco) with fellow nerds who loved comics as much as I did! Fast forward to 2011, me and my friends Jeremy and Brian finally did a three day weekend event of Wondercon in San Francisco. It was all the fun I ever wanted it to be! We were set to make it a yearly tradition. Then 2012 happened and no Wondercon in San Francisco. This sort of made sense since the place they usually have the con was being remodeled. It has now been 3 years and Wondercon has yet to return to the bay area in any form. It has been in Anaheim the last 3 years with no signs of ever coming back to the bay area. I grew up in the bay area and often have asked myself why is there no yearly huge comic book convention? Sure you have your BIG WOW (which I quite enjoy) but why can't the bay area (SF, Oakland, San Jose, etc..) be worthy of the comic con it deserves?

I hope to have the answer to that in 2016: Silicon Valley Comic Con

So far there isnt a great amount of details know.

Here is what we do know:

It will be located at the San Jose at the San Jose Convention Center on March 19-20

Steve Wozinak and Stan Lee are the big names involved

SVCC plans on inviting both Hollywood celebrities and tech leaders involved in movies, TV, music, gaming, electronics, apps and emerging technologies.

And a quote from SVCC founder Mr. Wozniak: "In life, the most important thing is to have fun, and Silicon Valley Comic Con will be the place to experience all your favorite things at one great show," said Wozniak. "Today, technology is pop culture, in Silicon Valley and around the globe. Entertainment and innovation inspire and bring so much joy to the world, and I’m so excited that we will showcase both at Silicon Valley Comic Con. It’s finally the Age of the Geek, and we’re ready to celebrate!"

Stay tuned to The Road to Silicon Valley Comic Con as we will update as we learn more leading up to the day of the Con!
